Is this true, and if so why would I want a pc card when I would have to pay more. Also when I approach Sprint they say this is not possible through a usb cable. However they say it is possible through a treo 650 using its bluetooth connection for an additional 20 bucks. neither company provides specifics on the web.

A PC card may be better for some people since not all phones support this feature. Also, with a phone, you have to worry about plugging it in and the cable can get in your way.
What's more, you probably don't even need to buy a cable. I assume you have the LG VX9800 phone. If you do, that phone supports Bluetooth, and you should be able to use Bluetooth instead of a cable. Using Bluetooth is, in my opinion, better than a cable--you can connect to the internet through your phone while it's in you pocket (or with the right adapter, across the room); not to mention you won't have to pay $40 or something just for some software and a cable. If you laptop isn't already Bluetooth-enabled, you can buy a USB adapter for it (I got mine from http://newegg.com for about $17 with rebate; I highly suggest class 1--it has 10X the range of class 2 and is well worth a few extra dollars). You will need VZAccess Manager; go to http://vzw.smithmicro.com and follow the instructions to download it. You may also need a driver (try using it without a driver first). Try the websites below first, and if they don't work, try searching Google. Then you simply pair your phone as a Dial-up Networking device and follow the wizard in VZAccess Manager.

Hope this helps!
